The word silk has been used and abused many a times, especially when it comes to products claiming to make your skin smooth as silk or shampoos leaving your tresses with a silky shine. Why not call it smooth as butter or shiny as a mirror?

Starting off as a rare luxury, this lustrous fabric has come a long way in the apparel industry so much so that adding silk to your wardrobe is now possible at every budget.

No wonder it is one of the most trending fabrics of 2013 and has started flying off the racks. Call it what you may, silk is having a serious fashion moment this year.

Fashion Trends 2013 #3 Velvet

After 50s, 70s and last being hugely popular in the 90s, it’s back again!

Back in fall of 1996, my mother bought me a cobalt blue velvet jumpsuit for one of the occasions and I bagged a lot of compliments. If I’d known the velvet trend will come back around and sweep me off my feet again, I would have saved that outfit. But you don’t care much about the fashion renaissance when you’re 6.

The rebirth of this plush fabric has successfully made the royal velvet trend our favorite this season. From incorporating it’s richness in dresses to skirts and even jeans, the designers all around the globe are doing it all uninhibitedly. The innate grandeur of the fabric was visible all throughout the wedding season and continues to charm us with its opulence in formal blazers for men and women alike.
